Recently Silverman posted a video outlining why she is voting for Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders. Below, you'll find the video. Below THAT you'll find my response.
Let's break it down: (Responding as I watch this)
She's a feminist so she was going to support Hillary simply because she was a Dem and a woman. That's nonsense. Especially based on Hillary's lack of character and ethics.
She saw certain things as necessary evils. The problem with that is that no evil is necessary and if we keep supporting evil we just keep getting evil.
She doesn't like big money donors. Supposedly Bernie has none but that's false. He has Union Super Pacs and Non-Profits funneling anonymous dark money into his campaign to the tune of millions.
"Fair share of taxes". This phrase kills me. What exactly is your "fair share" of the money someone else has worked to earn? It's a bullshit term with no basis in actual "fairness". That's not even addressing the fact that a belief in a "fair share" of taxes is a belief that men with guns should take someone else's money under threat of imprisonment or death.
Education and health are a right and not a privilege? Really, so if those are rights then you are entitled to them which means someone must provide them to you which means if nobody wanted to do so you would be justified in forcing people to by violence or threat of violence. That's not how rights work. You don't have a right or entitlement to anything you haven't worked for and earned. She even says "not charity". Not charity?!?! Charity is completely voluntary. Taxes aren't.
She doesn't understand what a democratic socialist is. You can't make people equal without making people unequal because you have to TAKE from someone to make them equal. By doing so you also create unintended consequences. I'm sure Sarah would not argue that she shouldn't get parts in movies that she is best qualified for because someone not as talented as her deserves to have that spot because they aren't as equal in talent as her.
Nobody in the US is feeding their children cat food at the benefit of somebody becoming rich. Rich people aren't necessarily, and I'd even say generally aren't assholes. George Lucas sold Lucas Film/Arts for hundreds of millions and gave it all to charity. Bill Gates has given away the majority of his fortune. Charity is more efficient dollar for dollar than government. Shut up Sarah.
Firefighters, as we currently have them, are definitely socialism.. except for the fact that there are private fire fighting companies as well as police forces. Just because something is done by government doesn't mean it always was, is the only way, or is the best way. Hey Sarah, the DMV, you like that? It's socialism. Nobody likes that.
"Donations from human people". Because Super-Pacs are made up of aliens from outer-space and cyborgs. However, it's a false argument to say that because of Sanders fund raising his policies are possible and right. That's ridiculous.
She goes on to display a complete lack of understanding in economics (which isn't surprising seeing as it's a very complicated science, but what is surprising is the amount of people willing to voice an opinion on it without having read a single book on it).
"People who work 40 hours a week shouldn't be below the poverty line". Well, it's about perspective isn't it? The US poverty line is still unimaginably wealthier than the majority of the world, I don't see anyone supporting Bernie advocating taking money from all Americans and helping out the world.. just our "poor" who are wealthy by the majority of the world's standards. How many Americans, per year, starve to death Sarah?
"He's been on the right side of history many times".. except socialism which is an oft-repeated failure. I'm looking at you, Venezuela.
Just "vote". No, don't just vote. Because again, it's not my job to vote if a candidate hasn't convinced me. It's candidates jobs to convince the electorate, so don't vote if you can't support a candidate, or write in who your principles tell you to vote for... and don't listen to actors or public figures who have no understanding of the science of economics beyond political talking points.
